About Us

Our Story

The University was founded with its foundation stone laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, on land beside the sacred Brahma Sarovar — the site traditionally associated with the Mahabharata and the discourse of the Bhagavad Gita. It began as a small institution built around a single department of Sanskrit.

Over the decades that single department expanded into a full multi‑faculty university spanning the sciences, engineering, law, business studies, education and the social sciences. The campus grew alongside it: 473 acres of residential, walkable grounds housing academic blocks, hostels, sports facilities and a central library.

Today the University is recognised by the UGC, holds NAAC ‘A++’ accreditation, and is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities — while its founding character as a place of Sanskrit and Indic scholarship remains close to its academic identity.
